FUD is an acronym for Fear Uncertainty Doubt. Fear of an event happening, uncertainty about the effects it may have and doubt about your ability to deal with it. It is a powerful tool for persuading someone less knowledgable to accept your proposition. It is used frequently to sell products and services in technically complex fields and is often encountered in computer security.
Your defence is risk analysis. To do this you could hire the services of an 'expert' (who is not a fuddite) or acquire sufficient knowledge to make an informed judgement. In any case the cost of defense from the event should be much less than the worst case cost of the event happening |
